Following up on a story we posted about last week, a cash reward has now been offered in an effort to track down a Wal-Mart shoplifter, whose crimes became more serious when she injured a security officer and ran into a parked car while escaping from Wal-Mart.
There's now a cash reward out for the woman pictured above on Wal-Mart security cameras.
The interesting part of the story to me, though, is the involvement of a Liberty Lake man who is now fighting felony charges for helping this woman escape security. All evidence presented seems to indicate the man honestly thought this woman was being attacked by people claiming to be security guards and actually tried to help security after he realized his mistake. Intending to be a good Samaritan, he ended up aiding a shoplifter.
In explaining the felony charges filed against the Liberty Lake man, Spokane Valley Police Spokesman Dave Reagan told The Spokesman-Review, "If you think an officer is violating someone's rights, the A plan is to be a good witness, because you just might be wrong."
Life doesn't come in slow motion, however, and we all have heard those quotes about what happens when "good men do nothing."

Indians legend lives in Liberty Lake

The man throwing out the first pitch Saturday as the Spokane Indians celebrate 50 years in Avista Stadium lives in Liberty Lake.
The Spokesman-Review’s excellent “Then & Now” series profiled Tony Roig Tuesday (link may require registration). Roig, 79, was with the Indians when Avista Stadium opened in 1958 and was the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1960, the year the then Triple-A Indians won the Pacific Coast League. Roig lives in Liberty Lake with his wife, Jackie.

The honors have continued to pile up for a pair of standout Liberty Lake athletes this week.
Former Central Valley High School pitcher Rusty Shellhorn, who averaged more than two strikeouts per inning in his just-completed senior season, was named first team on the Washington State Baseball Coaches’ 4A all-state team, The Spokesman-Review reported today.
Meanwhile, Spokane Chiefs forward Tyler Johnson was invited to attend the 2008 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., Aug. 1-9. He is also eligible for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft this weekend.
