Liberty Lake resident and Central Valley High School baseball standout Rusty Shellhorn was drafted by the Chicago White Sox Friday in the 39th round of Major League Baseball's first-year players draft.
Shellhorn was the 1,170th player chosen in the draft. He must now decide whether to honor his letter of commitment to Washington State University or join the White Sox organization.
"It's something I'm definitely proud of," Shellhorn told The Spokesman-Review in a story that ran Saturday (link may require registration). "I'm leaning toward college right now, but if it's a pretty offer I'll sit down and take some time to think about it if I mean something to the White Sox organization."
Shellhorn is a left-handed pitcher. He was recently named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Washington state.
