Sayrs concedes race Wednesday

On election night, it looked like it would take a major momentum swing for Liberty Lake City Councilman and Spokane County Commissioner candidate Brian Sayrs to make up ground.
It didn't happen. The Democrat fell further behind in Wednesday's tallies and formally conceded the race Wednesday night after his deficit of 3,000 votes grew to more than 10,000 in his bid to replace incumbent Republican Mark Richard.
"Being a reality-based candidate, I will always accept the ruling of the people and look forward to serving in the future," Sayrs told Thomas Clouse of The Spokesman-Review.
Along with Democrat Judi Owens -- whose bid to unseat longtime state Sen. Bob McCaslin, R-Spokane Valley, fell short Tuesday -- Sayrs will return to his service on the Liberty Lake City Council. Both Owens and Sayrs are original members of the Council. David Crump is the only other original member of the Council still serving since Wendy Van Orman switched hats with her election to the mayor's chair last year.
