At the time this issue was being distributed, the Central Valley boys basketball team was one of eight teams readying to participate in the state tournament in the Tacoma Dome. Along the way, the Bears cut down the home court nets after picking up a district championship over Greater Spokane League rival Gonzaga Prep. Above, coach Rick Sloan finishes the job for the Bears. The team was scheduled to open the state tournament against undefeated Jackson High School of Mill Creek at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28. Jackson, 24-0, is the second-ranked team in the state.
