Scout troop invites participants
Boy Scout Troop 463, which is forming this year, will meet at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at Liberty Lake Elementary School, 23606 E. Boone Ave.
The troop invites interested boys to attend a meeting, which will involve planning upcoming events, such as popcorn sales and campouts.
The Liberty Lake Kiwanis are sponsoring the troop.
Library announces top readers
The Liberty Lake Municipal Library recently announced its top readers for the summer reading program.
The top "independent readers" (kids who read 50 percent or more alone) are: Jennis Cader, Mallory Sarner and Misty Sarner. The top "teen readers" (age 12 and up) are: Taylor Baldwin, Serik Cader and Pavel Kanyushkin. The top adult readers (age 18 and up) are: Tanya Smith, Lisa Wardian and Cynthia Slayton.

Public invited to blog radio event
The community is invited to a "blog talk radio" event this weekend at the senior building in the Hawkstone development, 24950 E. Hawkstone Loop in Liberty Lake.
The event is meant to raise awareness about how politics affect seniors and the less fortunate.
The free event, which includes refreshments, will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
CVHS band, color guard to hold car wash and rummage sale
The Central Valley High School band and color guard are holding a car wash and rummage sale Sept. 11 to raise money.
The event is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the high school's south parking lot, 821 S. Sullivan Road in Spokane Valley.
Donate clothes for drive
The Best Foot Forward clothing drive is asking for donations of clothing, shoes, ties, belts and jewelry to be dropped off anytime between Sept. 10 and 19 at the Liberty Lake Safeway, 1233 N. Liberty Lake Road.
For a tax donation receipt, take donations to the Clothing Bank at Spokane Valley Partners, 10814 E. Broadway, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The drive provides professional clothing to men and women for job interviews, white-collar jobs and any other dress occasion.

Apply for Youth Commission
The city of Liberty Lake is accepting applications for the 2010 Youth Commission. Applicants must be enrolled in grades eight through 12 and live within the Central Valley School District. The term length is two years, although appointed seniors only serve one.
The application process is open until the positions are filled. For more information and to download an application, visit www.libertylakewa.gov/youth_commission/.
The commission typically meets at 7:30 p.m. every other Monday.
Book clubs at library
Two book clubs for adults are offered at the Liberty Lake Municipal Library, 23123 E. Mission Ave. The book discussion groups meet the second week of each month.
FOPP looking for concert event volunteers
Friends of Pavillion Park has volunteer opportunities for concert event positions, including helping with publicity and event setup and tear down.
Friends of Pavillion Park meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month and produces the Summer Concert Series, Outdoor Cinema, Liberty Lake Loop Fun Run, Holiday Ball and awards college scholarships each year.

Free class offered for abuse victims
A.R.M.S. (Abuse Recovery Ministry Services) offers free, confidential, weekly classes in Liberty Lake to help victims of domestic violence and abuse. For more information, call 484-0600 (calls are confidential).
Parenting forum to meet
Spokane Valley's Mindful Mamas is holding a parenting forum on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.
The free forum meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Liberty Lake Municipal Library's meeting room, 23123 E. Mission Ave.

Toastmasters seeking new members
Liberty Lake Toastmasters meets weekly from 5:45 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Denny Ashlock building, 22510 E. Mission Ave.
Guests are welcome to learn more about Toastmasters, gain confidence in public speaking in a safe environment and develop better communication skills.

City hosts Senior Lunch Program
The Senior Lunch Program in Liberty Lake is served Mondays and Wednesdays. Seniors age 60 and older are invited at 11 a.m. at Liberty Lake City Hall, 22710 E. Country Vista Drive. The recommended donation is $3.50.
LL police offer car seat checks
The Liberty Lake Police Department provides free car seat inspections by appointment.
Residents can contact Officer Erin Lance, who is a certified child safety passenger technician, to inspect child car seats and answer questions about proper installation techniques.
