Equine group to hold fundraiser
A local equestrian group that helps children and young adults with disabilities is holding its first annual "Denim and Diamonds" fundraiser April 10.
Started by Liberty Lake resident Gail Pennestri, Equine TLC offers equine therapy for people with Down's syndrome and autism.
The 6 p.m. fundraiser includes dinner, dancing and a live auction at the Highlands Golf Course in Post Falls. Tickets are $60 each. For tickets or more information, call 995-8650 or e-mail denimanddiamondsevent@ymail.com.

Splash asks for Peep entries
The Splash is hosting a Peeps contest this Easter, and you're invited to enter your marshmallow creations. Using the Peeps candies, create scenes, snap a photo and send them to editor@libertylakesplash.com by Friday. Scenes can be as varied as "Little Bo Peep and her Peeps" to "Peeps on the moon."

LLCT starts improv group
Liberty Lake Community Theatre is hosting its first improvisation performance troupe starting April 10.
The group will meet Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the theatre, 1421 N. Meadowwood Lane, Suite 130. Everyone is welcome, and participation is free.

Greenstone hosts blood drive
A community blood drive for Inland Northwest Blood Center will be held March 30 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the lobby of Greenstone Corp., 1421 N. Meadowwood Lane.
Those interested in donating are encouraged to use the new online scheduling system at www.myinbc.org with the sponsor code libertylakecomm. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Donors should drink plenty of fluids and eat a nutritious meal in the hours leading up to donation.

Easter events planned for LL
Liberty Lake has a series of events to celebrate Easter on April 3, including a community-wide Easter egg hunt.
The Liberty Lake Kiwanis annual pancake feed will be from 8 to 11 a.m. at Liberty Lake Elementary School, 23606 E. Boone Ave.
The Liberty Lake Community Easter Egg Hunt will follow at 11 a.m. at Pavillion Park for ages toddler through fourth grade. Pre-registration is required and will be held at City Hall, 22710 E. Country Vista Drive, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday and 4 to 8 p.m. on March 31. Six plastic eggs filled with wrapped candy are required or $5 per participant.
The "All Fools' Hunt" for grades five through 12 will be at 8 p.m. starting at Trailhead Golf Course. Registration can be completed at the same times available for the community Easter Egg Hunt or online at www.libertylakewa.gov. Registration is $5 beforehand or $10 at the hunt. All proceeds benefit Shriners Hospital for Children.
Kiwanis offers scholarships
The Liberty Lake Kiwanis Foundation is seeking candidates for its 2010 scholarships. Graduating seniors who live in Liberty Lake, are related to a current member of the Kiwanis club or attend the Central Valley, East Valley or West Valley school districts, former Kiwanis scholarship winners or other community member deemed eligible are welcome to apply.
Applications are available at all the high school counseling offices or online at www.libertylakekiwanis.org.
Scholarship applications are due March 31.

Tickets on sale for spring event
A spring social event to benefit the Liberty Lake Municipal Library will be held at 1 p.m. on April 24 at the LDS Church, 23515 E. Boone.
The theme for this year's event is "Seren-dip-i-tee" and a style show may be included. Guests are asked to bring their own cup and saucer.
The event will feature keynote speaker, Phyllis Stephens, an Inland Northwest garden expert who will discuss container gardening.
Tickets are $20 per person and are available until April 20 through any FRIENDS of the Liberty Lake Municipal Library members, who are organizing the sixth annual event.

‘Run For The Son' running in May
The Church Between The Lakes, made up of several churches between Liberty and Newman lakes, will host a 3.1-mile run/walk, a celebration of faith, at the Rockin' B Ranch just south of exit 299 of Interstate 90.
The Run for the Son will begin at 9 a.m. on May 29. Registration is $10 for walkers/runners of all ages. For more information, visit www.libertycross.org.
FOPP to offer scholarships
Friends of Pavillion Park recently announced its scholarship offerings for the 2010-11 academic year.
The group will offer seven awards ranging from $500 to $1,500 for students seeking post-high school education.
The awards are available for students who live in Liberty Lake or have a parent, guardian or grandparent who resides in Liberty Lake.
The application forms are available at www.pavillionpark.org. The deadline to apply is April 30.

Book clubs at library
Two book clubs for adults are offered at the Liberty Lake Municipal Library, 23123 E. Mission Ave. These book discussion groups plan to meet the second week of each month.
HUB offers community classes
The HUB Sports Center is offering classes to the community, including Zumba aerobics, speed fit body training and boxing fitness conditioning. Classes for youth include hoopster tots, baseball training, and speed, agility and quickness training.

FOPP looking for concert event volunteers
Friends of Pavillion Park has volunteer opportunities for concert event positions, including helping with publicity and event setup and tear down.
Friends of Pavillion Park meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month and produces the Summer Concert Series, Outdoor Cinema, Liberty Lake Loop Fun Run, Holiday Ball and awards college scholarships each year.

The newly formed Liberty Lake Lions Club is meeting weekly at the Guardian Angel Homes, 23102 E. Mission Ave. from noon to 1 p.m. Guests are welcome to learn more about the Lions organization.
The Liberty Lake Lions club will be part of Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service organization with 45,000 clubs and more than 1.3 million members in 205 countries and geographic areas. Spokane Valley's Mindful Mamas is holding a parenting forum on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.

FRIENDS seeking volunteers, used books
The FRIENDS of Liberty Lake Municipal Library is holding an ongoing used book sale at the library. Paperbacks and hardbacks on any topic may be donated for the sale.
The group also is seeking volunteers to serve on the board. FRIENDS donated computers and furnishings for the new library and supports the summer reading program and other special events. The board meets at 6 p.m. at the library on the last Tuesday of each month.

City hosts Senior Lunch Program
Starting March 8, the Senior Lunch Program in Liberty Lake also will be served Mondays in addition to Wednesdays. Seniors age 60 and older are invited at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays (and soon-to-be Mondays) at Liberty Lake City Hall, 22710 E. Country Vista Drive. The recommended donation is $3.50.
LL police offer car seat checks
The Liberty Lake Police Department provides free car seat inspections by appointment.
Residents can contact Officer Erin Lance, who is a certified child safety passenger technician, to inspect child car seats and answer questions about proper installation techniques.
