Incidents and arrests:
• Golf cart accident - Liberty Lake police responded to a golf cart vs. vehicle accident June 17 at the intersection of Valley Way and Olive Lane. The golf cart, driven by a 76-year-old woman, was going eastbound on the cart path. As she entered the intersection, she was struck by a vehicle driven by a 63-year-old man. The vehicle's driver reportedly stopped at the stop sign, looked both ways and saw the golf cart in front of him when he pulled into the intersection. The woman sustained minor injuries. No citations were issued.
• Suspended license - A 44-year-old woman was arrested June 22 for driving with a suspended license. She did not have proof of insurance and also was on electronic home monitoring. She told officers her boyfriend was ill and couldn't take her to work, so she had to drive.
• Warrant arrest - An officer pulled over a vehicle driving close to 70 mph June 22 on Cataldo Avenue, which has a 35-mph speed limit. The passenger, a 19-year-old male, volunteered his identification. When the officer checked him out, he found three outstanding warrants, including a minor operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol, a minor in consumption/possession of alcohol and theft. The passenger was arrested for the warrants and the driver, a 21-year-old, was cited for second-degree negligent driving.
• Prowler in Spokane Valley - Liberty Lake police assisted the Spokane Valley police June 26 to locate a suspect in a felony hit-and-run incident. A man called police to report a prowler in the area of East Mission Avenue and North Barker Road, and the description matched the wanted suspect. The man told LL police his house has been burglarized in the past and he was concerned it would happen again. After officers checked the area, two males approached them and said they saw a male matching the description heading out of the area. Both appeared to be nervous and gave incomplete descriptions, said police, who were suspicious of the two. One officer left the area to continue looking for the prowler, and the second stayed to see what the two males would do. The pair went to a pickup that had a large box inside and drove away. Later, the officer saw the male again and spoke with him, and his story didn't match what he had stated previously. The second male also gave a different story. Police checked the pickup and found stolen items in the bed and cab, including video cameras and TVs. The items totaled more than $1,500. Both males, a 21-year-old from Spokane Valley and a 22-year-old from Spokane, were detained, and the case was turned over to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office for investigation.
• Pistol-whipping in Otis Orchards - While officers were on the prowler call June 26, they were notified of a burglary in process in Otis Orchards. Two males were attempting to break into a vehicle and house on the 24000 block of East Joseph. The victim was confronting the burglars and was armed with a pistol. He pistol-whipped one of the reported burglars, and at one point, was disarmed. Officer Mike Thomas responded to the burglary call and found the victim chasing the two suspects through a field. He pursued them and the victim and one of the suspects stopped. The other went under a fence, and yelled at Thomas to shoot and kill him. He advanced menacingly toward the officer and began running at him, ignoring the officer's warning of being Tased. Thomas deployed his Taser, and one of the probes missed the suspect, who attacked the officer and fought with him for control of the Taser that then malfunctioned and Tased both officer and suspect. Thomas was able to overcome the suspect and detain him until backup units arrived to assist in taking both suspects, a 26-year-old from Otis Orchards and a 25-year-old from Deer Park, into custody. The case is being investigated by the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.
