Police Report
6/24/2009 8:24:15 AM

The following arrests, incidents, calls for service and citations were reported by the Liberty Lake Police Department for the week of June 15-22.

Arrests and incidents:
Warrant arrest - A Spokane Valley man was arrested June 16 at Country Vista Drive and Mission Avenue for a superior court bench warrant out of Spokane County for failing to appear. The driver initially was stopped for not wearing a seatbelt.

Nightmare roommate - Liberty Lake police responded to a report on June 15 of a domestic violence argument on the 21200 block of East Country Vista Drive that turned out to be a roommate issue. During the investigation, police determined no physical assault had occurred. The complainant said he evicted his roommate from the apartment because she had damaged it while he was gone for an extended period of time. The former roommate returned to ask for money, but when the tenant refused, she called 911 to report that she was being held against her will. She left by the time law enforcement arrived. Police later found that the former roommate allegedly overdrew on the tenant's bank account, and he also found a credit card and Social Security card application - in the former roommate's handwriting - that had a different name than the former roommate originally provided. The items were turned over to police for investigation of identity theft and fraud. The former roommate has since fled the area and is out of state, police said.

Hit and run accident - A 68-year-old Newman Lake woman was arrested June 18 at her home in Newman Lake for a hit and run accident and driving with a suspended license. A witness reported to police that a vehicle hit a parked car in the lot at 2207 N. Molter Road. The driver got out of her car, looked at the damage, got back in her car and drove away, a witness told police. Officer Erin Lance found the woman's home address, where the vehicle matching the description was parked. The suspect admitted to hitting the vehicle but told the officer she didn't think the damage was extensive enough to report. The officer also found that her driver's license was suspended and she lacked insurance for her vehicle.

Suspended license - A 52-year-old Liberty Lake man was arrested June 18 on the 1800 block of North Molter Road for two warrants out of Spokane County District Court for driving with a suspended license.

DUI - A 36-year-old Spokane man was arrested June 19 on Appleway for driving under the influence. A caller reported that the driver seemed highly intoxicated and appeared to be sleeping in a vehicle in the Taco Bell parking lot. When the officer was en route, the caller told dispatch that the driver had awoken and was driving eastbound on Appleway. The officer stopped the driver and found he was impaired.

Skate park - Two Otis Orchards juveniles are banned from Pavillion Park after reportedly offering marijuana Monday to another juvenile at the skate park. Police say the pair allegedly asked the boy if he wanted drugs, and one placed an arm around him during the encounter. The boy told his parents, who reported the incident to police. The pair was still at the park when officers arrived, and police say they didn't find any drugs on the teens. The two are banned from the park for a year, and fourth-degree assault charges (unwanted touching) have been forwarded, police said.

Facebook - The Liberty Lake Police Department has gone online with a Facebook page to help connect to the community with pictures, news releases, updates and areas for residents' feedback, Police Chief Brian Asmus said.
