Burn ban in effect

Residents in Spokane County are banned from having open recreational fires because of high fire danger, fire officials said.
The ban -- effective for up to 90 days -- does not prohibit the use of backyard barbecues, chimneas or other patio/deck warmers, as long as approved fuel is used, including seasoned (clean and dry) firewood, briquettes, propane or natural gas.
The order is due to expected continuation of dry and hot weather conditions, abundant grasses for fuel and the increased likelihood of wildfires in the area, fire officials said. For more information, visit here (may require registration).

A jogger found the body of a 25-year-old Spokane man on Sunday near the border of Washington and Idaho. The man drowned in the Spokane River last week.
The body was discovered a half-mile east of the Harvard Road Bridge.
Anderson D. Corral - who was not wearing a life jacket - was swimming with two friends last week but never emerged from the river. The sheriff’s marine unit recovered the body.
