Primary election results
Hope -
8/20/2008
Voters in Liberty Lake and the rest of the state cast their ballots for Tuesday's first-ever "top two primary."
Tuesday night's preliminary results included 70,073 ballots counted in Spokane County. Elections officials said they expected another 36,000 ballots to flow in.
The new system narrows a long list of candidates for partisan and nonpartisan offices before November's general election. The top two vote-getters advance, regardless of political affiliation.
The new system is getting its first run after voters approved an initiative in 2004. A U.S. Supreme Court ruling upheld the system in March.
Here is a look at some local preliminary results for the top two vote-getters. For full results, visit Spokane County's Web site.
